Why private lessons?
Let’s face it - meditation is hard.
Group classes are great, but sometimes we need more individualized instruction.
Are they right for you?
We have seen meditation help all different kinds of people work more skillfully with all different kinds of suffering. If you’re struggling with physical pain, emotional discomfort, relationship stress or want to improve mental clarity and focus, a private meditation lesson will surely be of benefit.
No prior experience is required. There are no silly questions and everything you share is 100% confidential.
What ages do you work with?
We work with anyone over the age of 18. If you have a child under the age of 18 who is interested in learning meditation, please reach out on the contact page and we can discuss kid-friendly options like shorter sessions that incorporate mindful activities (cooking, art, yoga) to prepare your child for more formal meditation.
What’s a private lesson like?
It’s like therapy, but different.
Instead of just talking, we close our eyes and look within the body for areas of stress and tension. We practice the 5 Essentials of Somatic Meditation as a starting point (feel your feet, relax your tongue, relax your face, soften your belly, and look for the Yin breath).
All the terms and techniques are explained in as much detail as you can handle :) We geek out on energetics, anatomy, mindfulness, neuroscience, philosophy and any other intellectual areas of meditation practice that inspire you.
We talk about what it’s been like to live in your body lately and anything that has been on your mind that’s causing you stress.
I’ll hold space for you to listen to your body without judgement, criticism, or expectation. I’ll let you vent about what’s stressing you out, and then guide you through a more customized meditation practice that could help.
You can do the guided practice either sitting upright in a chair, on a cushion, or lying down on the ground.
Is the first lesson different from follow-up lessons?
Yes.
Practically speaking, the first lesson begins with reviewing your intake form and talking about how you're doing physically, mentally and emotionally.
I’ll ask about any prior experience with meditation and listen to your goals and aspirations.
Based on what you share, I will recommend a 10-20 minute somatic meditation practice to support your overall wellbeing. We’ll probably spend about 40 minutes for me to get to know you and 20 minutes actually practicing meditation (at your level - in any posture that works for you - with loads of very specific instructions so that you’re comfortable and feel supported).
How long are private meditation lessons?
Each lesson lasts 1 hour.
How much time is spent in silence?
It really depends on YOU. If you’re brand new to meditation we probably won’t go longer than 2 minutes in silence during your first few lessons. If you’re more experienced and wanting to learn a more advanced somatic meditation lesson, we may spend about 10-20 minutes at a time in silence.
There is always space for you to interrupt the silence and ask questions. We really try to find a balance of quiet time and speaking time.
Are they offered in-person or online?
After you book your session you'll be asked to fill out a short intake form so that I can start to get to know you and your interest and hopes for meditation.
What results can I expect from a private lesson?
Expect to leave feeling more centered, calm, and empowered.
How much do they cost?
Private meditation lessons are $150.
I’m ready. What happens next?
You can schedule your private meditation lesson here. After you book your lesson you’ll be emailed a short intake from that we ask you to complete at least 24 hours before your lesson.
